MODULE: Artistic Design

Program delivered by distance learning higher education up to a maximum of 36 credits. This module may be combined or completed with other online university courses from this faculty.

DESCRIPTION:

This program is a philosophical examination of artistic creation and design. It discusses the impact of arts on everyday life, and evaluates different design styles, approaches and interpretations. It also addresses the problems encountered by design artists including the idea of talent, the artist's personality, and creative blocks, and shows creative tools and inspirational resources for the artistic designer.

 

Courses list (each subject accounts for 3 credits):

1 BIU Earned Credit = 1 USA Semester Credit (15 hours of learning) = 2 ECTS Credit (30 hours of study).

This module is applicable to Specialist, Expert, Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. (Doctor) Programs. This distance learning degree program is designed at the postgraduate level – Master’s or Doctoral. This module may be easily adapted to complete the Specialist, Expert or Bachelor’s adult degree program requirements. A further option is the enrollment into the online university courses listed in this module.

* University Course (3 credits): Select 1 subject from this module.

* Specialist Diploma (15 credits): First 5 subjects or select 5 subjects from this module.

* Expert Diploma (21 credits): First 7 subjects or select 7 subjects from this module.

* Bachelor's Degree (130 credits): The Admission certificate issued after submission of the application for admission will show the amount of credit transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete this undergraduate program's major. Additional courses from other modules of this faculty will be assigned in case that the credits displayed on this module are not enough to complete the bachelor's required credits.

* Master's Degree (35 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 13 credits corresponding to a final project to the selected subjects.

* Ph.D. (Doctor) (45 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 18 credits corresponding to a final thesis to the selected subjects.

BIU issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the degree program's major. BIU can not perform this evaluation without the complete application for admission.

Art History

This course explores art history from the earliest cave paintings to the experimental art of today. Art History covers the Western tradition and the cultures of the Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands, and the Americas.

Interior Design

This course explores interior design concepts, ideation sketches, and informative presentation techniques for decoration projects. It examines the planning data, technical details, and decorative elements needed to design and plan residential and commercial interiors. It treats residences, offices, and commercial spaces (bars, hotels, banks, public restrooms, etc.).

XXth Century Art

This course provides a thematic and chronological survey of the XXth century major genres of artistic expression: Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, Futurism, Dadaism and other artistic revolutions. It also covers the multiplication of new art forms (video, performance pieces, land and installation pieces), and new contexts of fashion design, publicity, and marketing along the XXth Century.

Creativity

This course presents the principles of the creative function. It examines the process of idea generation through different techniques such association, brainstorming, sense connecting, closures, opposites, verbal plays, clocks and calendars, personalization's and so on. It shows how to discipline thoughts and ideas according to the creative strategy and communication goals.

Art Direction

This course explores the role of the art director in leading the design effort of graphic artists, illustrators, photographers and production firms. It covers the design, production and budgeting of advertising for a variety of media including magazine, newspaper and direct mail, television and the Internet. It critically evaluates typography, line, color, texture, size, sound and space, in designing.

Decorative Elements

This course describes the most suitable pieces of furniture for a given space. It covers construction details such walls and floors, stairs, fireplaces, lighting, kitchen distribution and woodwork. It also deals with other decorative elements such the use of plants in interiors, audiovisual systems, security, color theory, window treatments, elevators, indoors sports areas, etc. It explains lighting principles and technologies, and the appropriate selection of lighting effects for each space.

Visual & Graphic Design

This course reviews the history of graphic design to its evolution into the new media age. It shows how to create clear, intelligent and powerful graphic communication for any graphic media. It reviews design techniques, visual thinking, visual persuasion, concept development, composition & typography. It is aimed to develop your own personal visual & graphic design style and vision.

Logo & Packaging Design

This course covers corporate, logo and packaging design to develop market differentiation and identity. It shows how to create a logo and presentation that will strengthen the visual image, branding and identity of a client, company, a product or service.

Architectural Design

This course examines the various human purposes in architecture, the types of architectural styles, and the different approaches to construction. It presents architectural design theories, methods, ideas and technologies, and it finally explores new views toward architectural aesthetics.

Visual Arts

This course examines how visual arts have been influenced by, and how they have influenced, interacted with, defined, and been defined by other media, arts, technology and cultural trends. It examines how visual arts have moved from a marginal to a mainstream art form. It explores the nature of visual perception in everyday life, and how the elements of visual imagery may combine to deliver a persuasive message.

Landscape Art & Perception

This course explores the reciprocal relationships of man, nature and art with particular attention to the cultural variations and interpretations of esthetics, landscape materials, artwork placing, and viewer's perception and experience. It deals with the process of placing and integrating artwork in several landscape settings.
