Part of these questions form the basics of biology and life sciences. We are also living organisms and we have evolved in response to the same basic set of chemical elements. We all share the same processes that allow us to survive. This program explains biological concepts and offers a unified presentation of life and its variation through evolution.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. Students enrolling into this distance education program should be aware that:
1. Location: Bircham International University needs a functional geographical location to ship the book and materials for successful completion of this program of study.
2. Communication: Email, courier, phone are key communication instruments with Bircham University that play an important role in the progress and support of this program of study.
3. Capacity: Any impediment, physical or psychological, to read a book and write a report must be communicated to Bircham International University prior to enrollment into this distance learning program.

Duration - Biology & Life Science Online via distance learning

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week. It also depends on the number of validated credits from previous knowledge and the level of commitment to the studies.

This course explores the origin and nature of life, from simple single-cell to complex plants, animals, and human beings. It also covers the diversity and unity in the living world by studying the forms and organization of bacteria and other cells, the specialized structure of the human body, and how the organism is regenerated, maintained, and repaired.

This course reviews the major areas of biology including cell biology, genetics, evolution, phylogeny, the structure and function of plants and animals, their origin and evolution, their reproduction and genetics, and their diversity and ecological relations.

This course explains the key concepts of genetics and the biochemical and biological principles behind its various applications. It moves from basic to advanced topics in genetics while providing an overview of concepts in modern biotechnology and molecular genetics.

This course provides an integrated study of the structure, function, and interactions of cells, with an emphasis on their molecular composition and dynamics. This course reviews plants and fungal biology from evolutionary, ecological, and physiological perspectives including the function, structure, development, and evolution of diverse plants.

Marine Biology
This course deals with the biological aspects of marine communities from coastal estuaries to deep ocean trenches. It integrates marine biology with aspects of physical, geological, and chemical oceanography in relationship to the marine ecosystems and the organisms that inhabit them.

Animal Biology
This course examines the biological mechanisms that animals employ to survive in a diversity of environments; molecular, cellular, and physiological mechanisms are discussed in an evolutionary context that emphasizes animals adaptive responses. It reviews the underlying genetic and biochemical regulation of development considering developmental genetics and experimental embryology.

Virus & Bacteria
This course examines the nature and multiplication of viruses and bacteria and considers the physiological, genetic, ecological, and evolutionary characteristics of virus and bacteria as well as the relation of phenotype to phylogeny.

Invertebrate Animals
This course examines the comparative biology and morphology of invertebrates, their structures, and functions. It deals with principles of animal organization, Protista, simpler multicellular animals, echinoderms, chordates, annelids and related worms, mollusks, and arthropods.

Mollusks & Insects
This course presents the structure, classification, physiology, and ecology of mollusks and insects. It also considers the interrelationships of insects and man and their developmental processes and adaptations in diverse insect groups. It emphasizes hormonal control mechanisms in metamorphosis, polymorphism, regeneration, and genetic analysis of development.

Vertebrates
This course presents the biology of vertebrate animals and emphasizes their diversity, adaptations, and evolutionary history. It introduces the mechanisms and control of vertebrate behavior in an ecological context, as shaped by natural selection. It also considers the classical and current theories regarding the genetic basis of vertebrate development, specialized sensory systems, and the organization of responses in changing environments.

Plants Biodiversity
This course explores plant biodiversity and evolution and includes contemporary concepts of plant phylogeny, the origin of land plants through the origin of angiosperms. It emphasizes on morphology, reproduction and evolutionary trends in bryophytes, pteridophytes, and gymnosperms.

You may download this application form from our website or request it by email or mail. Please send this application and enclosed documents to the corresponding BIU Office and allow ten business days for processing. * Include copies of diplomas, transcripts, relevant documents; and
* Include any additional program proposal, scholarship request, etc. (optional).

 

Bircham International University issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the distance learning degree program's major. Bircham University can not perform this evaluation without the complete application for admission.
