METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. Students enrolling into this distance education program should be aware that:
1. Location: Bircham International University needs a functional geographical location to ship the book and materials for successful completion of this program of study.
2. Communication: Email, courier, phone are key communication instruments with Bircham University that play an important role in the progress and support of this program of study.
3. Capacity: Any impediment, physical or psychological, to read a book and write a report must be communicated to Bircham International University prior to enrollment into this distance learning program.

Duration - Comparative Literature Online via distance learning

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week. It also depends on the number of validated credits from previous knowledge and the level of commitment to the studies.

Language is a fundamental characteristic of the human species. This course provides a survey of the world's languages and focuses on their diversity and complexity, as well as their syntactic, phonological, and morphological properties.

Literature: Forms, Genres, History
This course examines how literary forms and genres shape our reading of texts; how these forms and genres change over time; and how literary forms and genres manifest themselves in different cultural traditions. It focuses on different literary themes namely the motive of generational conflict, the human potential for both violence and compassion, death and transfiguration, and women.

Narrative Development
This course illustrates the means of story-telling and integrates practical writer rules with theoretical models based on literary constructions. It explains the construction of a solid narrative combined with the creation of believable, compelling characters that propel that narrative forward. It finally helps to find personal stories that inspire dramatic narrative.

Paramount Literature Writers
This course examines representative works from paramount literature writers and concentrates on a critical approach to both the works and the authors. Emphasis is placed upon language and style, analyses of the human experience, and the cultural impact of the writers.

Paramount Literature Works
This course explores selected literature works from different genres such as History, Plays, Comedies, Romances, and Tragedies. It concentrates on an analytical approach to the meaning, story, and dramaturgy. Emphasis is placed upon the cultural impacts these literature works have.

Comparative Literature
This course deals with reading, understanding, and enjoying literature from various countries, in different forms of expression (e.g., dramatic, lyric, narrative, and rhetorical) and representative periods. It provides a comparative study of the themes and motifs common to literature in the world.

Literature & Culture
This course studies literature and its relation to culture. It focuses on literature as a cultural institution, directly related to the construction of individual identity and the dissemination and critique of values. Emphasis is placed on cross-cultural comparison of literary works.

You may download this application form from our website or request it by email or mail. Please send this application and enclosed documents to the corresponding BIU Office and allow ten business days for processing. You may also submit this application and attached documents by email in PDF Format.

* Include copies of diplomas, transcripts, relevant documents; and
* Include any additional program proposal, scholarship request, etc. (optional).

 

Bircham International University issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the distance learning degree program's major. Bircham University can not perform this evaluation without the complete application for admission.
