This program is designed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the English Literature from its origins. Students are exposed to a variety of literary genres (poetry, drama, fiction and, essay), in addition to the major aesthetic, political, religious, and social issues that influenced and helped shape the literature of each epoch. In this program, it is not only paramount for students to understand the literature being under study, but they should also become familiar with the development of the English language and related historical aspects. By mastering these concepts, students can gain a deeper appreciation of the development and expansion of the English Literature throughout the world.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. Students enrolling into this distance education program should be aware that:
1. Location: Bircham International University needs a functional geographical location to ship the book and materials for successful completion of this program of study.
2. Communication: Email, courier, phone are key communication instruments with Bircham University that play an important role in the progress and support of this program of study.
3. Capacity: Any impediment, physical or psychological, to read a book and write a report must be communicated to Bircham International University prior to enrollment into this distance learning program.
4. Technology: No specific technology is required to complete this distance education program.
5. Language: Book reading and report writing in other language than English must be requested (and approved by BIU) prior to enrollment in any distance learning program.

Duration - English Literature Online via distance learning

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week. It also depends on the number of validated credits from previous knowledge and the level of commitment to the studies.

This course examines how literary forms and genres shape our reading of texts; how these forms and genres change over time; and how literary forms and genres manifest themselves in different cultural traditions. It focuses on different literary themes namely the motive of generational conflict, the human potential for both violence and compassion, death and transfiguration, and women.

The English Language
This course deals with the use and abuse of spoken and written English. It studies and evaluates the use of language for various purposes (e.g., colloquial, scientific, legal, political, commercial, journalistic, and literary) in order to increase critical awareness and help to write clearly and effectively. It examines factual, emotive, scientific, and imaginative writing, as well as relevance, context, meaning, tone, feeling, and intention.

This course is designed to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the English literature from its beginnings. This course examines representative works from paramount literature writers and concentrates on a critical approach to both the works and the authors. Emphasis is placed upon language and style, analyses of the human experience, and the cultural impact of the writers.

Paramount Literature Works
This course explores selected literature works from different genres such as History, Plays, Comedies, Romances, and Tragedies. It concentrates on an analytical approach to the meaning, story, and dramaturgy. Emphasis is placed upon the cultural impacts these literature works have.

This course presents a study of developments in early English Literature. It also examines the English language in its earliest form.

* Include copies of diplomas, transcripts, relevant documents; and
* Include any additional program proposal, scholarship request, etc. (optional).

 

Bircham International University issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the distance learning degree program's major. Bircham University can not perform this evaluation without the complete application for admission.
