METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. Students enrolling into this distance education program should be aware that:
1. Location: Bircham International University needs a functional geographical location to ship the book and materials for successful completion of this program of study.
2. Communication: Email, courier, phone are key communication instruments with Bircham University that play an important role in the progress and support of this program of study.
3. Capacity: Any impediment, physical or psychological, to read a book and write a report must be communicated to Bircham International University prior to enrollment into this distance learning program.
4. Technology: No specific technology is required to complete this distance education program.

Duration - Industrial Engineering Online via distance learning

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week. It also depends on the number of validated credits from previous knowledge and the level of commitment to the studies.

Systems Analysis & Design
This course studies the systems development cycle for best planning, feasibility of the project, staffing, and scheduling. It investigates current business systems and their problems, the definition of business needs and requirements, and the evaluation of alternative solutions. It shows how a company organizes itself to use data processing equipment more effectively.

Systems Implementation
This course deals with the general and detailed specification of a computer-based solution that was selected during systems analysis. Included in the design specifications are the programming specifications. Systems implementation is placing the system into operation and how to use systems tools in each phase of the systems development cycle.

Production Strategy
This course shows the importance of production planning, control, and strategy in modern manufacturing organizations. It covers production and operations strategy, subjective and objective forecasting, inventory planning, and control. It also reviews Just-in-time Production (JIT), Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS), and Optimized Production Technology (OPT).

Manufacturing Systems Integration
This course explains the need for the integration of manufacturing systems and deals with the multitude of their practical problems. The engineering details covered include the types of communication links available between systems, communication standards, and hardware platform alternatives. The management concepts discussed are namely the top-down design/bottom-up implementation approach to system integration, long-range planning and management of integration projects, security issues, and human factors.

Supply Chain Management
This course focuses on the analysis and management of material and information flows throughout the supply chain; including aspects of product design and configuration, inventory modeling and planning, network configuration, and supply channel flow management and forecasting.

Engineering Systems Simulation
This course explains the methods of developing, implementing, and using computer simulations for management and engineering processes, project monitoring, equipment failure, risk analysis, and forecasting. It includes common simulation and forecasting mistakes, data sources and quality, and presenting and using forecasts and simulation for decision analysis.

Occupational Safety & Health
This course explores the specific hazards associated with major industries. Subjects covered include machine guarding, electrical safety, systems safety analysis, materials handling, and working at heights. It examines methods of integrating safety and industrial hygiene programs into industrial operations. Philosophic issues related to industrial safety and health such as responsibility for safety, dependency on safe practice, and hierarchy of prevention are also investigated.

Innovation Management
This course presents the methods for transforming organizations to create innovation. It covers diagnosis of opportunities for innovation and development, intervention activities, and implementation strategies. Bircham International University issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the distance learning degree program's major.
