MODULE: International Business

Program delivered by distance learning higher education up to a maximum of 45 credits. This module may be combined or completed with other online university courses from this faculty.

DESCRIPTION:

This program provides the theoretical basis as well as a practical analysis of actual international business. It describes the global environment in which business operates, the process of business preparation and market entry, strategy and operations. It also covers human and cultural environments facing business, international trade theory, government influence on trade, international business diplomacy, multinational accounting and tax strategy, and multinational ownership reflecting recent developments and current interests.

This module is applicable to Specialist, Expert, Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. (Doctor) Programs. This distance learning degree program is designed at the postgraduate level – Master’s or Doctoral. This module may be easily adapted to complete the Specialist, Expert or Bachelor’s adult degree program requirements. A further option is the enrollment into the online university courses listed in this module.

* University Course (3 credits): Select 1 subject from this module.

* Specialist Diploma (15 credits): First 5 subjects or select 5 subjects from this module.

* Expert Diploma (21 credits): First 7 subjects or select 7 subjects from this module.

* Bachelor's Degree (130 credits): The Admission certificate issued after submission of the application for admission will show the amount of credit transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete this undergraduate program's major. Additional courses from other modules of this faculty will be assigned in case that the credits displayed on this module are not enough to complete the bachelor's required credits.

* Master's Degree (35 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 13 credits corresponding to a final project to the selected subjects.

* Ph.D. (Doctor) (45 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 18 credits corresponding to a final thesis to the selected subjects.

BIU issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the degree program's major. BIU can not perform this evaluation without the complete application for admission.

International Business

This course studies domestic and foreign perspectives that form the context for business in a diverse, global and interdependent world. It covers topics on socio-cultural diversity; ethical issues; political, legal and regulatory issues affecting business; environmental issues; and the impact of demographic diversity on organizations.

Business in Developing Nations

This course examines the international environment for transnational trade, investment, and operations in the less-developed countries; It surveys the economics of underdevelopment; and provides an analysis of foreign economic, cultural, and political environments and their impact on international business. It also considers the effect of foreign investment in the countries development process.

Business in Less Developed Countries

This course provides an understanding of the economic, sociocultural, and political environment in the less developed countries. It deals with the problems of international trade and investment, north-south relations, technology transfer, foreign aid, and financial and capital flows.

Business in Industrial Countries

This course deals with the factors and conditions affecting business operations and behavior in developed countries. It covers topics on international integration, business relations among nation states and supranational systems, direct investment and multinational activities.

Multicultural Diversity

The course shows how to deal with a different culture. It covers identity development, acculturation, class, prejudice and discrimination, demographics, and verbal and non-verbal communication in the context of different cultures and values. It examines the impact of different cultural backgrounds on managerial decisions and highlights the complexities of management in a global environment.

Industrialized Countries Economy

This course explores the political and economic systems of advanced industrialized societies. It covers immigration, globalization, social movements, factors affecting business operations in developed countries, international integration, and multinational investment and activities.

Third World & Developing Nations

This course surveys the dominant theories of economic development and the meaning of "development vs. growth." It discusses the major characteristics of the developing nations and the key constraints and variables of economic and political development: population growth, unemployment, urbanization, migration, agricultural and rural development, education, industrialization and trade.

World Politics & Globalization

This course discusses the great power relations in the 20th century. Several critical issues of the world equilibrium are analyzed, as well as notions of national power, the paths to power, balance of power and collective security. It presents the instruments of international peace and order. It examines the following topics in international politics: massive destruction arms control, wars of intervention, the environment, global interest versus self-determination, and peace management.

International Trade

This course surveys different trade policies pursued by both developed and developing countries. It examines issues important to trade policy such tariffs and non-tariff barriers, safeguards, voluntary restraints, dumping and subsidies. It also covers trade strategies, agricultural trade, developing country rules, and regionalism.

International Business Law

This course emphasizes the practical application of international business law. It compares legal aspects of business, trade, financing, and contracts under different legal systems. It explains the international means of enforcement, adjudication, and arbitration. Multinational and multicultural in perspective, it examines international organizations and treaties that have an impact on international business.

E-Commerce

This course explains web commercial services. E-commerce is the name given to the business process of selling products, goods, and services over a Web browser. In its simplest form, it allows a company's product catalog to be hosted on a Web server so that customers and potential customers can visit such site, see what must be done to sell and then place orders. Each E-commerce site is different and requires different considerations.

Cyberspace Law

This course focuses on the legal issues confronting participants in Cyberspace. Whether viewed as Virtual Space, the Internet or simply the Web, Cyberspace promotes a most challenging interaction of law, public policy, technology and markets. In a provided context of cyber culture and technology, this course examines the key contemporary procedural and issues including jurisdiction, governmental regulation of pornography and indecency, privacy, intellectual property and evolving Internet commerce. It also focuses on the investigation and prosecution of computer crimes.

International Business Management

This course studies the issues, concepts, and activities associated with the management of international, multinational, global, and transnational organizations. Topics include: manufacturing, marketing, financial, and other functional strategies; political and economic issues as they affect decision making; issues related to organizational structures and strategic control; comparative management styles and ethics.

International Finance & Taxation

This course examines the international financial environment with particular emphasis on the foreign exchange markets and their interrelationships with international financial management and taxation. It also focuses on the principles involved in the taxation of inbound and outbound international transactions; jurisdictional issues; double taxation; taxation of income from inbound and outbound investment; international tax treaties; and fiscal incentives for investment.

Multinational Management

This course deals with the managerial and strategic responses to problems of international business organizations and operations. It explains the design and control of a multinational company structures and executives; and the adaptation of management systems and policies to different economic, sociocultural, and political environments.
