MODULE: Naturopathy

Program delivered by distance learning higher education up to a maximum of 36 credits. This module may be combined or completed with other online university courses from this faculty.

DESCRIPTION:

This program recognizes when the conditions for health exists, healing will prevail. Traditional water therapies, herbs, physical medicine and nutrition when properly utilized can facilitate the self-healing process within the body. The mental, emotional and spiritual connections to various disease states and relative recommendations to overcome these situations will be covered. In addition to employing various natural medicines, students will gain an important perspective of the vital force and its role in the healing process, when used in conjunction with natural health science principles.

1 BIU Earned Credit = 1 USA Semester Credit (15 hours of learning) = 2 ECTS Credit (30 hours of study).

This module is applicable to Specialist, Expert, Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. (Doctor) Programs. This distance learning degree program is designed at the postgraduate level – Master’s or Doctoral. This module may be easily adapted to complete the Specialist, Expert or Bachelor’s adult degree program requirements. A further option is the enrollment into the online university courses listed in this module.

* University Course (3 credits): Select 1 subject from this module.

* Specialist Diploma (15 credits): First 5 subjects or select 5 subjects from this module.

* Expert Diploma (21 credits): First 7 subjects or select 7 subjects from this module.

* Bachelor's Degree (130 credits): The Admission certificate issued after submission of the application for admission will show the amount of credit transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete this undergraduate program's major. Additional courses from other modules of this faculty will be assigned in case that the credits displayed on this module are not enough to complete the bachelor's required credits.

* Master's Degree (35 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 13 credits corresponding to a final project to the selected subjects.

* Ph.D. (Doctor) (45 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 18 credits corresponding to a final thesis to the selected subjects.

BIU issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the degree program's major. BIU can not perform this evaluation without the complete application for admission.

Human Anatomy & Physiology

This course describes the gross and microscopic structure of each system of the human body and the integration of these systems within the entire body. It explains the organization and function of the human body as a whole and the interrelationships of its various systems.

Immunology

This course presents the immune system, including its structure, components, mechanisms, immunological methods, immune response, and inflammation. Clinical immunology will be emphasized, including hypersensitivity, atopy, autoimmunity, and immunodeficiency disorders.

Physical Therapy

This course provides a comprehensive knowledge of physical therapy for treatment of injuries, bodily weaknesses and defects through physical remedies such as massage, exercise, gymnastics, light, heat, cold, water and mechanical devices. It presents the physiological benefits of exercise in the correction of structural imbalances and the value of stretching, deep breathing, yoga, aerobic and non-aerobic activities for maintaining optimum health.

Natural Medicine

Nature acts powerfully through healing mechanisms in the body and mind to maintain and restore health. This course explains the utilization of naturopathic methods and natural medicinal substances which work in harmony with the human system in order to facilitate long-lasting health and recovery. It explains the vital force and its role in the healing process when used in conjunction with naturopathic principles.

Human Pathology

This course of pathological processes in the human body focuses on the basic mechanisms and concepts of tissue reaction to injury, degenerative cellular changes, cellular response to the inflammatory reaction, and concepts of immunology. Additionally, pathologic responses of specific body systems to infections and degenerative diseases are stressed.

Orthomolecular Nutrition

This course presents an analysis of disease etiology (causation) from the perspective of the nutrition of the cell and tissues and details the organic deficiencies and malnutrition caused by the typical modern diet which imbalances our biochemistry. It explains how to recognize these deficiency signs and symptoms and identify good nutritional sources and available forms of dietary supplements for good health.

Therapeutic Physiology

This course explains the mechanisms of action and interaction of the physiological body systems with pathological and clinical considerations. It presents a systems rather than a regional approach which facilitates the therapist focus on the relationship between structures and function.

Herbology / Phytotherapy

Nature acts through herbs triggering the healing mechanisms in the body and mind to restore health. This course provides an analysis of the properties, functions, principles of combinations, preparation, dosage administration, and contraindications of herbal prescriptions. It describes the utilization of herbs to prepare medicinal substances which work in harmony with the human system, thus facilitating health and recovery.

Health Practice Management

This course deals with the skills for building a successful practice in health sciences. Personal, professional and ethical issues encountered in everyday practice are explored in order to prepare for the transition of becoming a professional health practitioner. It also explains how to manage the relationship derived from counseling and treatment of the patient.

Pharmacology & Toxicology

This course helps to recognize major drug classifications and their most common applications; the rationale for pharmacological intervention for selected drugs; the use of drug information sources and patient-prescriber interaction; and the principles of toxicological adverse effects, drug interaction and drug abuse.

Clinical Naturopathy

This course provides the identification of the pathology and etiology of certain disease states and their symptomatology along with an overview of the physiological function and imbalances of the human system. It shows various holistic health modalities, nature cures and their corresponding methods of treatment.

Nutrition Therapy

This course presents the nutritional intervention strategies, counseling skills, and diet modifications that pertain to disease prevention and treatment of common diseases and disorders. It explains the normal nutrition needs of individuals at various age levels, the assessment of nutritional status, the nutritional values of foods and the appropriate dietary modifications to achieve the healing and clinical effect required by an effective nutrition therapy.
