MODULE: Sensory Therapy
Program delivered by distance learning higher education up to a maximum of 33 credits. This module may be combined or completed with other online university courses from this faculty.
DESCRIPTION:
Sensorial therapy encourages the effective and creative use of the five senses as a safe, pleasant and accessible alternative therapy. Students will deepen their understanding of how touch, smell, color, music and breathing can be used as agents of healing in therapeutical work. This program will teach different connections and perspectives between our senses and physical, psychological, and spiritual health. It focuses on learning how to use our senses as therapeutic tools.

1 BIU Earned Credit = 1 USA Semester Credit (15 hours of learning) = 2 ECTS Credit (30 hours of study).

This module is applicable to Specialist, Expert, Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. (Doctor) Programs. This distance learning degree program is designed at the postgraduate level – Master’s or Doctoral. This module may be easily adapted to complete the Specialist, Expert or Bachelor’s adult degree program requirements. A further option is the enrollment into the online university courses listed in this module.
* University Course (3 credits): Select 1 subject from this module.
* Specialist Diploma (15 credits): First 5 subjects or select 5 subjects from this module.
* Expert Diploma (21 credits): First 7 subjects or select 7 subjects from this module.
* Bachelor's Degree (130 credits): The Admission certificate issued after submission of the application for admission will show the amount of credit transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete this undergraduate program's major. Additional courses from other modules of this faculty will be assigned in case that the credits displayed on this module are not enough to complete the bachelor's required credits.
* Master's Degree (35 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 13 credits corresponding to a final project to the selected subjects.
* Ph.D. (Doctor) (45 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 18 credits corresponding to a final thesis to the selected subjects.
BIU issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the degree program's major. BIU can not perform this evaluation without the complete application for admission.

Movement & Meditation
This course analyzes the role of movement in our lives through an exploration of the relationship between motion energy, body and emotions. It explores several methods of meditation and concentration with a focus on their physiological and psychotherapeutical effects. It relates breathwork, chanting, movement and meditation in different traditions.

Touch & Palpation
This course identifies the muscle and bone of the musculo-skeletal system, and integrates the knowledge of anatomy with the theoretical skills of palpation with emphasis on the muscular system. It explains the palpation of bony landmarks and superficial muscles.

Color Therapy
This course shows treatments to enhance recovery from various illnesses through the use of colored light. Color depends on the frequency of light and each color shade vibrates on a specific frequency. Certain rays of color (energy frequency) may have a healing effect on the body, the mind, and the emotions. Color in the environment has a subtle but definite effect upon the state of mind of a person.

Music Therapy
This course shows the powerful effects of music to develop self-awareness and provides insights to the uses of music and sound in healing. Music therapy can have a powerful effect on individuals of any age who suffer autism, disabilities, sensory impairments, emotional disturbance, mental and geriatric illnesses.

Art Therapy
This course integrates art-based interventions and therapy techniques to support the formation of a productive therapeutic relationship. It explores various historical & theoretical trends in art therapy, focusing on the models of transpersonal interpretation when examining art work expressions and strategies when establishing a therapeutic relationship through art. Art provides mindfulness through process painting, drawing and sculpture projects.

Hydrotherapy
This course explains the application of water treatments to reinforce the therapeutic process and the physiological effects of hot and cold as applied to illness and injury. It describes several spa and hydrotherapy treatments including ice therapy, hydrotherapy tub/whirlpool, alternate hot and cold therapies, vichy shower, mud treatments, and fomentation. It also considers water treatments combined with aromatherapy through the use of different inhaled essences.

Senses Awareness & Development
This course examines the connection of your senses with your body and mind to develop self-awareness. It deals with different techniques to perceive and direct your internal focus to acquire more control of the body and the flow of energy through it. It describes how to develop your senses to enhance perception and become a better therapist.

Manual Therapies / Massage
This course presents the theoretical basis for the use of massage and touch therapies to promote healing through the study of the physiology of the body and the bioenergetic fields. It shows the principles of several touch therapies considering the points of view of Western and Oriental techniques.

Physical Therapy
This course provides a comprehensive knowledge of physical therapy for treatment of injuries, bodily weaknesses and defects through physical remedies such as massage, exercise, gymnastics, light, heat, cold, water and mechanical devices. It presents the physiological benefits of exercise in the correction of structural imbalances and the value of stretching, deep breathing, yoga, aerobic and non-aerobic activities for maintaining optimum health.

Aromatherapy
This course explains the preparation and therapeutic use of essential oils, how they influence the patient's nervous and lymphatic system, and how they help to restore a variety of health conditions with the appropriate aromatherapy support. It shows the characteristics of the different administration options of essential oils: orally, rectally, vaginally, by inhalation or massage.
