MODULE: Transpersonal Psychology

Program delivered by distance learning higher education up to a maximum of 54 credits. This module may be combined or completed with other online university courses from this faculty.

DESCRIPTION:

This program will expand the perspective of psychology to describe a new range of functioning of the human mind, thereby building bridges between spirituality and mind sciences. Also, it reviews the rich contributions of such differing cultures as Shamanism, Hinduism, and Buddhism, illustrating the influence of these traditions on the therapeutic practice.

This module is applicable to Specialist, Expert, Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. (Doctor) Programs. This distance learning degree program is designed at the postgraduate level – Master’s or Doctoral. This module may be easily adapted to complete the Specialist, Expert or Bachelor’s adult degree program requirements. A further option is the enrollment into the online university courses listed in this module.

* University Course (3 credits): Select 1 subject from this module.

* Specialist Diploma (15 credits): First 5 subjects or select 5 subjects from this module.

* Expert Diploma (21 credits): First 7 subjects or select 7 subjects from this module.

* Bachelor's Degree (130 credits): The Admission certificate issued after submission of the application for admission will show the amount of credit transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete this undergraduate program's major. Additional courses from other modules of this faculty will be assigned in case that the credits displayed on this module are not enough to complete the bachelor's required credits.

* Master's Degree (35 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 13 credits corresponding to a final project to the selected subjects.

* Ph.D. (Doctor) (45 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 18 credits corresponding to a final thesis to the selected subjects.

BIU issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the degree program's major. BIU can not perform this evaluation without the complete application for admission.

Movement & Meditation

This course analyzes the role of movement in our lives through an exploration of the relationship between motion energy, body and emotions. It explores several methods of meditation and concentration with a focus on their physiological and psychotherapeutical effects. It relates breathwork, chanting, movement and meditation in different traditions.

Healing Practices & Rituals

This course explores the major traditions focusing on spiritual practices and rituals, and their effective healing experience. It examines the relationship between these practices and their effects on our body, mind and spirit. It covers different practices of stress management, such as meditation, guided imagery, dance, movement and art expression related to emotional states and physical disease improvement.

Human Development

This course introduces the theory, empirical research, and applied issues in developmental psychology. It focuses on social, psychological, cultural, emotional and spiritual aspects of development across the life course, with emphasis on the applications of these theories to counseling. Students will be encouraged to revisit their own developmental path.

Understanding Disease

This course explores different emotional states and their influence on health. It focuses on the relationship between emotion and disease from the perspective of the subconscious mind. It also examines evidence for the effectiveness of stuck emotion channeling practices for health promotion and disease reduction.

Illness Awareness & Lifecycle

This course will focus on applying psychosomatic and wellness concepts to persons with chronic illness, physical disability, life-threatening illness and developmental desequilibrium as they occur across the life cycle and within culture. The core concept in this course is supporting wellness through various life experiences.

Mind, Body & Spirit

This course explains the importance of the interconnection of mind, body and spirit. It discusses different practices of stress management, meditation, guided imagery, physical exercise, art expression, and biofeedback related to emotional states, wellness and disease.

Psychosomatic Connexion

This course presents an interconnection of mind-body-spirit that goes beyond the traditional body-mind concept. It suggests new body-mind interdependent relationships. It explores how psychosomatic interpretations of physical symptoms relate to mental disorders and vice versa and how these interpretations play a role in our mental, emotional and physical health.

E-Motion Therapy

E-motion: All life is an expression of energy in motion. Energy emerges from and returns to its source. This course presents the principles and philosophies that explain the flow of the vital force. It reviews some theories and techniques to channel energy in motion: Polarity therapy, Ayurveda, Chinese Traditional Medicine, and Reiki.

Human Consciousness

This course examines the human consciousness. The brain appears to be more a complicated organism to register and channel consciousness rather than produce it. Consciousness, the subjective experience of an inner self, could be a phenomenon forever beyond the reach of neuroscience. Even a detailed knowledge of the brain's workings and the neural correlates of consciousness may fail to explain how or why human beings have self-aware minds.

Emotional Intelligence

This course delineates the five crucial skills of emotional intelligence, and shows how they determine our success in relationships, work, and even our physical well-being. What emerges is an entirely new way to talk about being smart. It explains why empathy, self-awareness, and self- discipline is essential to success and positive human interaction. It provides an effective tool that can make our schedules, behaviors, and relationships more manageable.

Wellness & Health

This course focuses on a holistic approach to wellness and health management. It shows how to assess our current wellness status and how to make improvements where necessary. Topics include physical activity, nutrition, self-esteem, emotional intelligence, sexuality, and spiritual wellness.

Spiritual Wellness

This course analyses the distinctions between religion, theology and spirituality. It considers the stages of spiritual development for the individual and the relationship between spirituality and health from the perspective of the world religions. It evaluates the effectiveness of spiritual practices for wellness and the ways to address issues of spirituality in the lives of people.

States of Consciousness

The course focuses on waking, sleeping, and dreaming as examples of conscious states from the perspectives of neurology, physiology, psychology, and cognitive neuroscience. It reviews the major models of consciousness philosophy and a provides a detailed examination of attention.

Therapeutic Trance States

This course surveys various states of consciousness including: hypnosis, sleep, dreaming, lucid dreaming, meditation and psychedelic experiences, and it examines the effects of these states on the therapeutic experience.

This course extends the classic field of psychology to describe the full range of functioning of the human mind. Philosophy of Mind

This course examines the central problems of the philosophy of mind from a multi-disciplinary perspective, including the mind-body problem, the nature of mental states, intention and representation, sensation and consciousness, and related topics.

Hypnosis & Suggestion

This course explores the history of hypnosis, trance induction, levels of trance, deepening techniques, post-hypnotic suggestion, rapport, pre-induction interview, goal-setting. It describes the use of suggestion for rapid personal change, physical and emotional healing, creativity, and spiritual growth.

Hypnotherapy

This course explains how to use client's behavior and frames of reference for both trance induction and the therapeutic use of trance states. It focuses on pacing and leading, developing therapeutic states, using suggestion, parallel communication, metaphors and stories, and mutual trance. It explores the communicating though hypnosis with different aspects of the personality to facilitate behavioral change.
