Domotics via distance learning

 

This program of domotics explores the encounter of information technology, electrotechnics and electronics that makes a home become "smart". A smart home is a home outfitted with technology that enables communication between smart devices and more control of the home. Advantages include energy efficiency, customization and ease of use while disadvantages include cost and internet reliance. A home automation system will control lighting, climate, entertainment systems, appliances, access control and alarm systems. The word domotics literally means home robotics.

Building Active Control Systems
This course deals with building service systems, including electrical, gas, HVAC, fire prevention and safety, communications, and service-water supply and distribution. It also considers energy efficiency, optimum selection of energy sources, and renewable energy sources such as passive or active solar systems, geothermal systems, and/or free-cooling.

Building Acoustics & Illumination
This course explores vibration, noise, and acoustics control: walls, barriers and enclosures, acoustical materials, and structures. It also considers production, measurement, and control of light, as well as the design of natural and artificial lighting systems.

HVAC System Design
This course examines HVAC system design and analysis; including room air distribution, fans and air circulation, humidifying and dehumidifying processes, piping and ducting design, elements of indoor air quality, physical/ chemical characteristics of contaminants, health effects, and standard requirements.

Residential Design
This course focuses on generating ideas and creating plans for residential designs using preliminary design concepts. It studies design elements and principles, contemporary issues relative to interior residential design, as well as issues related to human needs in the residence, and the functions and spatial proportions in the built environment.

Commercial Spaces
The course explores the design of commercial spaces through creative thinking based on planning and programming techniques. It focuses on problem solving within a specialized environment and provides creative design solutions to unique situations while resolving common issues related to public and commercial facilities.

Building Technology
This course presents important issues of building technology namely heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical distribution, and fire protection systems and emphasizes on the aspects of their design, construction, budgeting, and problem solving. It presents solutions for achieving energy-efficient buildings, for evaluating thermal performances, materials and envelopes resistance, air flow through and around buildings, and strategies for integrating technology into the architectural design process.

Cyber Security
This course of cyber security studies the options to protect the integrity of a computer’s internet-connected systems, hardware, software and data from cyber-attacks. Cyber security deals with the protection of the hardware and computer architecture, software and application security, network and cloud integrity, and any device connected to the internet.

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma.
