This course examines the relationships between processing, properties, structure, and the behavior of materials. It considers the behavior of ceramics, metals, polymers, composites, compound semiconductors, magnetic systems, and biological hard tissues.

This course presents industrial hydraulics and pneumatics, its system components, the design of hydraulic and pneumatic circuits, and its role in computer, robotics, and electro-mechanical devices.

Thermodynamics
This course reviews the main principles and laws of thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and fluid dynamics. It introduces the use of entropy and free energy, energy conversions and energy systems, combined heat and power, tri-generation systems (power, heating, and cooling), hybrid systems, and energy conversion efficiencies. It offers an understanding of the role of chemical thermodynamics in the development and design of energy systems.

Materials Science
This course explains how materials are manufactured; why they behave the way they do; how they are fabricated into structural objects-parts; and how they can be compounded into alloys, reinforced composite structures, and flexibilized toughened structures. It considers the properties of materials utilized in practice of engineering, and the atomic, molecular, and crystalline structure of metals, ceramics, composites, and polymeric materials.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week.
