Nature acts through herbs to trigger the healing mechanisms that restore both body and mind health. This program discusses modern practices of herbology while taking the influences of different cultures into account. It also classifies the herbal prescriptions used to treat various illnesses and diseases according to the organs they affect. In addition, it covers the fundamentals of growing, drying, storing and cooking herbs, as well as the making of infusions, decoctions, oils, and ointments. This program teaches how to prepare and use herbs to make medicinal substances that work in harmony with the human system and facilitate health and recovery.

The philosophy of natural health sciences recognizes that when good conditions for health exist, healing will prevail. Traditional water therapies, herbs, physical therapy and nutrition when properly utilized; can facilitate the self-healing process within the body. This course describes how to recognize underlying root-causes of illness and the principles governing natural health and healing.

Medicinal Plants
This course describes plant botany and plant identification. It covers harvesting, drying techniques, and the preparation of dry and fresh botanical tinctures, salves, and others. It provides a detailed survey of plants and plant preparations used in naturopathic practice while integrating traditional herbal knowledge with modern pharmacological research.

Chinese Herbology
This course classifies Chinese medicinal herbs according to their functions, therapeutic uses, taste, energy, actions, indications, dosage, contraindications, and methods of preparation. It describes how these herbs are therapeutically used to alleviate symptoms, detoxify, reduce fever, warm the body, open orifices, relax the shen, reduce gases, regulate Qi, and activate blood.

Botanical Materia Medica
This course surveys plants and covers the plant preparations used in natural health practice. It considers the pharmacopoeia, toxicology, and therapeutics of each plant in addition to the indications for the clinical use of botanical preparations. It also introduces the knowledge of the traditional botanical materia medica of other cultures.

This course investigates the basics of developing a patients' case study namely: observation and contact, methods of communication, questioning and obtaining information, and the use of archive. Herbs Psychopharmacology

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma.
