This program deals with energy efficiency, energy service consumption, facility management, plant engineering optimization, environmental compliance, and alternative energy technologies. The main job of energy engineers is to find the most efficient and sustainable way to operate buildings and manufacturing processes. Energy engineers supervise the use of energy in those processes and suggest ways to improve the systems namely, advanced lighting, better insulation, and more efficient heating and cooling of both buildings and industrial processes.

This module is applicable to Specialist, Expert, Bachelor's, Master's & Ph.D. (Doctor) Degree Programs. This academic program is designed at the postgraduate level (Master’s or Doctoral). METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. Students enrolling into this distance education program should be aware that:
1. Location: Bircham International University needs a functional geographical location to ship the book and materials for successful completion of this program of study.
2. Communication: Email, courier, phone are key communication instruments with Bircham University that play an important role in the progress and support of this program of study.
3. Capacity: Any impediment, physical or psychological, to read a book and write a report must be communicated to Bircham International University prior to enrollment into this distance learning program.

Duration - Energy Engineering Online via distance learning

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week. It also depends on the number of validated credits from previous knowledge and the level of commitment to the studies.

Renewable Energy
This course reviews the new energy paradigm: local energy resource availability in different countries, the need to reduce CO2 and other gas emissions, implications of global warming and climate change, the political and economic implications of increasing scarcity of conventional oil, and the importance of renewable energy. Finally, it explores the principles for sustainable energy development and how to accomplish it.

HVAC System Design
This course examines HVAC system design and analysis; including room air distribution, fans and air circulation, humidifying and dehumidifying processes, piping and ducting design, elements of indoor air quality, physical/ chemical characteristics of contaminants, health effects, and standard requirements.

Building Technology
This course presents important issues of building technology namely heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical distribution, and fire protection systems and emphasizes on the aspects of their design, construction, budgeting, and problem solving. It presents solutions for achieving energy-efficient buildings, for evaluating thermal performances, materials and envelopes resistance, air flow through and around buildings, and strategies for integrating technology into the architectural design process.

Building Design
This course studies building design processes and the evaluation of design alternatives. It explores a conceptual building design: area requirements, space layout, structures, enclosure systems, and services. It includes site preparation and earthwork, wood framing, masonry, concrete forming, precast construction, industrialized building, shoring, and underpinning.

Thermodynamics
This course reviews the main principles and laws of thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and fluid dynamics. It introduces the use of entropy and free energy, energy conversions and energy systems, combined heat and power, tri-generation systems (power, heating, and cooling), hybrid systems, and energy conversion efficiencies. It offers an understanding of the role of chemical thermodynamics in the development and design of energy systems.

Energy Process Engineering
This course explains the concepts and process of energy conversion. It presents power systems structure, components, and operation. It deals with the applications of power transmission lines and transformers, energy system representation, load flow, power system protection, symmetrical components, faults, and stability.

Natural & Synthetic Fossil Fuels
This course studies the reserves of coal, oil, and natural gas. It deals with petroleum processing and refining; coal, oil shale, and tar sand; and gasification and liquefaction of coal. It explores the methods used to evaluate the natural and synthetic properties of oil and gas.

Energy Distribution Systems
This course describes both overhead and underground energy distribution system and their characteristics. It considers load, line and cable models, distribution transformers, power flow and fault analysis, overcurrent protection, power factor correction, and energy distribution system planning and automation.

This course explores all elements of electrical engineering including electrostatics, magnetic fields, AC & DC circuits, mesh and nodal analysis, circuit simplification techniques, circuit components, circuits dynamic and analysis, sinusoids and phasors, amplifiers, transistors, and diodes as switches.

Architectural Environmental Integration
This course considers how climate and environment determine building forms, site analysis, and design strategies to optimize comfort temperature and illumination. It presents passive means for environmental control, including day lighting use and noise reduction, and enhances the aesthetics integration with the surroundings.

Alternative Energies
This course explores the usefulness of various types of energies and the application of engineering in designing alternative energy systems. It includes passive and active solar systems, fuel cells, hydroelectric power, geothermal heat transfer, and wind energy. It involves in the inventory, evaluation, planning, design, installation, and maintenance of a wide variety of energy producing systems.

Energy Pollution Control
This course examines energy supply, conventional fuel reserves (coal, oil, natural gas), alternative sources (nuclear, solar, geothermal, etc.), and their corresponding pollution levels, economic, and environmental impacts. It presents current methods and technology for energy pollution control and the regulatory standards for environmental protection.

Process Improvement Management
This course focuses on the technical and teaming skills necessary to achieve quality-processes. Topics include: understanding quality, the improvement cycle, quality tools, eliminating complexity from work, and implementing quality in processes, activities, and organizations. It also covers statistical process control and methods employed in the assurance of product conformance to quality specifications. It provides an analytical approach to solving problems in quality engineering process design and costs.

You may download this application form from our website or request it by email or mail. Please send this application and enclosed documents to the corresponding BIU Office and allow ten business days for processing. You may also submit this application and attached documents by email in PDF Format.

* Include any additional program proposal, scholarship request, etc. (optional).

 

Bircham International University issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the distance learning degree program's major. Bircham University can not perform this evaluation without the complete application for admission.
