Sensorial therapy encourages the effective and creative use of the five senses as a safe, pleasant, and accessible alternative therapy. Students will deepen their understanding of how touch, smell, color, music, and breathing can be used as agents of healing in therapeutical work. This program teaches the different connections between our senses and the physical, psychological, and spiritual health from various perspectives. It explains how to use our senses as therapeutic tools.

Senses Awareness & Development
This course examines the connection between the senses, the body, and the mind that lead to the development of self-awareness. It investigates various techniques that allow the perception of internal forces and their direction to acquire more body control and internal energy flow. It describes how to develop personal senses to enhance self-perception and become a better therapist.

Movement & Meditation
This course analyzes the role of movement in our lives through an exploration of the relationship between the energy of motion, the body, and the emotions. It describes several methods of meditation and concentration and focuses on their physiological and psychotherapeutical effects. It relates breathing, chanting, movement, and meditation in various traditions.

Touch & Palpation
This course discusses the constituents of the musculo-skeletal system (muscles and bones) while integrating the principles of anatomy with the theoretical techniques of palpation, as particularly applied to the muscular system. It explains the process of palpation of bony landmarks and superficial muscles.

Physical Therapy
This course comprehensively explores the use of physical therapy for treating body injuries, weaknesses, and defects. It stresses on various techniques such as massage, exercise and gymnastics in addition to the use of light, heat, cold water, and mechanical devices. It highlights the physiological benefits of exercise in correcting structural imbalances and the value of stretching, deep breathing, yoga, aerobic, and non-aerobic activities for maintaining optimum health.

Color Therapy
This course explores the use of color therapy in the treatment of various illnesses. Color development is based on light frequency and intensity and each color might have varying healing effects on the body, mind, and emotions. Colors have a subtle and definite effect on a person's state of mind.

Aromatherapy
This course explains the preparation and therapeutic uses of essential oils, how they influence the patient's nervous and lymphatic system, and how they help to restore a variety of health conditions using the appropriate aromatherapy support. It shows the characteristics of the different administration options of essential oils: orally, rectally, vaginally, by inhalation, and/or massage.

Hydrotherapy
This course explains the application of water treatments (hot and cold) to reinforce its therapeutic and physiological effects in the treatments of illness and injury. It describes several spa and hydrotherapy treatments including ice therapy, hydrotherapy tub/whirlpool, alternate hot and cold therapies, vichy shower, mud treatments, and fomentation. It also considers water treatments combined with aromatherapy through the use of different inhaled essences.

Manual Therapy & Massage
This course studies the principles of physiology of the body and the bioenergetic fields as the theoretical bases for the use of massage and tactile therapies to promote body healing. It uses Western and Oriental techniques to demonstrate the principles of various tactile therapies.

Music Therapy
This course demonstrates the powerful effects of music on developing self-awareness. It provides insights into the use of music and sound in healing. Music therapy have determinant effects on individuals suffering from autism, disabilities, sensory impairments, emotional disturbance, we well as mental and geriatric illnesses.

Cognitive Development
This course focuses on the theories and models of learning as applied to the fields of education, cognitive psychology, and artificial intelligence. This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. Duration - Sensory Therapy Online via distance learning

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week.
