This program of music therapy explores the use of music interventions to accomplish therapeutic goals and improve the patient’s quality of life. After assessing the strengths and needs of each individual, the music therapist provides the indicated treatment including creating, singing, moving to, and/or listening to music. Music therapists use music and its many facets— physical, emotional, mental, social, aesthetic, and spiritual— to help individuals improve their health and well-being. Given the universal nature of music, music therapy is uniquely able to reach individuals across all backgrounds and ages.

This course of musicology deals with the theoretical study of music, encompassing all aspects of music in all cultures and all historical periods. Music performance is an important facet of musicology, but it is a different area of study. A program in musicology does not teach how to play any instruments. This course of mindfulness reviews several meditation techniques to achieve a state of alert and focused relaxation by deliberately paying attention to present thoughts and sensations without judgment. This allows the mind to refocus on the present moment. Achieving a state of mindfulness and present awareness requires intention, attention, attitude.

This course explores the effective and creative use of the body's five senses as a safe, pleasant, and accessible alternative therapy. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education
This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma.
