MODULE: Psychosomatic Therapy

Program delivered by distance learning higher education up to a maximum of 39 credits. This module may be combined or completed with other online university courses from this faculty.

DESCRIPTION:

New definitions of health and illness will be explored as we move into the field of psychosomatic medicine. Students will find different emotional approaches and their influence on health. The program will focus on how psychosomatic interpretations of physical symptoms relate to emotional disorders and vice versa and how they play a role in our mental, emotional and physical health. From a psychosomatic point of view, the individual is responsible for her or his own health.

This module is applicable to Specialist, Expert, Bachelor's, Master's and Ph.D. (Doctor) Programs. This distance learning degree program is designed at the postgraduate level – Master’s or Doctoral. This module may be easily adapted to complete the Specialist, Expert or Bachelor’s adult degree program requirements. A further option is the enrollment into the online university courses listed in this module.

* University Course (3 credits): Select 1 subject from this module.

* Specialist Diploma (15 credits): First 5 subjects or select 5 subjects from this module.

* Expert Diploma (21 credits): First 7 subjects or select 7 subjects from this module.

* Bachelor's Degree (130 credits): The Admission certificate issued after submission of the application for admission will show the amount of credit transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete this undergraduate program's major. Additional courses from other modules of this faculty will be assigned in case that the credits displayed on this module are not enough to complete the bachelor's required credits.

* Master's Degree (35 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 13 credits corresponding to a final project to the selected subjects.

* Ph.D. (Doctor) (45 credits): Select from 3 to 9 subjects from this module depending on the amount of credits transferred from previous education and experience. Add 18 credits corresponding to a final thesis to the selected subjects.

BIU issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the degree program's major. BIU can not perform this evaluation without the complete application for admission.

Human Development

This course introduces the theory, empirical research, and applied issues in developmental psychology. It focuses on social, psychological, cultural, emotional and spiritual aspects of development across the life course, with emphasis on the applications of these theories to counseling. Students will be encouraged to revisit their own developmental path.

Understanding Disease

This course explores different emotional states and their influence on health. It focuses on the relationship between emotion and disease from the perspective of the subconscious mind. It also examines evidence for the effectiveness of stuck emotion channeling practices for health promotion and disease reduction.

Illness Awareness & Lifecycle

This course will focus on applying psychosomatic and wellness concepts to persons with chronic illness, physical disability, life-threatening illness and developmental desequilibrium as they occur across the life cycle and within culture. The core concept in this course is supporting wellness through various life experiences.

Mind, Body & Spirit

This course explains the importance of the interconnection of mind, body and spirit. It discusses different practices of stress management, meditation, guided imagery, physical exercise, art expression, and biofeedback related to emotional states, wellness and disease.

Psychosomatic Connexion

This course presents an interconnection of mind-body-spirit that goes beyond the traditional body-mind concept. It suggests new body-mind interdependent relationships. It explores how psychosomatic interpretations of physical symptoms relate to mental disorders and vice versa and how these interpretations play a role in our mental, emotional and physical health.

E-Motion Therapy

E-motion: All life is an expression of energy in motion. Energy emerges from and returns to its source. This course presents the principles and philosophies that explain the flow of the vital force. It reviews some theories and techniques to channel energy in motion: Polarity therapy, Ayurveda, Chinese Traditional Medicine, and Reiki.

Human Body & Mind

This course examines the human being as an integrated physiological and psychological entity. It covers aspects of the human body's function, development and care exploring the interaction between body and mind in physiological, clinical and psychological terms. It also describes the interaction between the human body and mind and their environment and evolution.

Emotional Homeopathic Treatments

This course provides an effective coverage of all aspects of Homeopathy: philosophy, case taking, case analysis, case management and Materia Medica studies with special emphasis on the treatment of emotional conflicts and stress.

Flower Essences Therapy

Besides gaining a thorough knowledge of the flower essences themselves, the most important skill is communication with one's client and learning to appreciate the significant soul gestures that can be correlated with the adequate flower essence. This course provides the guidance on how to select archetypal flower essences remedies which are truly effective.

The Search for Meaning

This course will focus on the relationship between problems and the meaning each individual sees in life. Distinctions are made between philosophy and spirituality. It deals with the stages of psychological and spiritual development for the individual and the methods for evoking meaning and purpose in life.

Emotional Intelligence

This course delineates the five crucial skills of emotional intelligence, and shows how they determine our success in relationships, work, and even our physical well-being. What emerges is an entirely new way to talk about being smart. It explains why empathy, self-awareness, and self- discipline is essential to success and positive human interaction. It provides an effective tool that can make our schedules, behaviors, and relationships more manageable.

Wellness & Health

This course focuses on a holistic approach to wellness and health management. It shows how to assess our current wellness status and how to make improvements where necessary. Topics include physical activity, nutrition, self-esteem, emotional intelligence, sexuality, and spiritual wellness.
