This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. Duration - Agricultural Engineering Online via distance learning

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week. It also depends on the number of validated credits from previous knowledge and the level of commitment to the studies.

This course presents the properties that govern the use of soil for plant growth and construction engineering purposes. It emphasizes on sustainable use and conservation. It identifies soil resources for human needs and the management of soil landscape data to ameliorate the environmental impact of human activities.

The course covers the theoretical basis of sustainable agriculture; designing alternative systems and technologies; alternative production systems; and managing insect pests, pathogens, and weeds. It provides examples from throughout the developed and undeveloped world.

This course reviews the problems, principles, and control of soil erosion by water and wind, land planning for soil conservation, and water management including irrigation and drainage problems.

Renewable Energy
This course reviews the new energy paradigm: local energy resource availability in different countries, the need to reduce CO2 and other gas emissions, implications of global warming and climate change, the political and economic implications of increasing scarcity of conventional oil, and the importance of renewable energy. Finally, it explores the principles for sustainable energy development and how to accomplish it.

This course reviews the selection, use, evaluation, maintenance, and management of farm, industrial, and turf equipment. It also explores the calibration, efficiency, cost considerations, and labor performance of agriculture machinery.

This course deals with waste sanitation and the environmental health problems concerning watersheds, water channels, river systems, and the sea. It examines waste impact on the hydrologic cycle and provides management solutions for modifying this impact on water quality, quantity, and use.

Agricultural Biotechnology
This course reviews the theory, principles, and techniques of molecular biology and its applications in agriculture and animal production. Humans have historically altered plants to meet food needs. It also explores the impacts of biotechnology from different perspectives.

Alternative Energies
This course explores the usefulness of various types of energies and the application of engineering in designing alternative energy systems. It includes passive and active solar systems, fuel cells, hydroelectric power, geothermal heat transfer, and wind energy. It involves in the inventory, evaluation, planning, design, installation, and maintenance of a wide variety of energy producing systems.

This course presents an evolutionary process perspective on technology strategy, automation, and innovation. It covers managing innovation, technology life cycles, forecasting, and managing R&D, personnel, and projects. It also covers current methods, tools, and associated equipment used for current industrial automated processes.

Bioprocessing of Byproducts
This course presents the principles of chemistry, microbiology, and engineering applicable to the design of systems for the treatment and utilization of livestock manures and other agricultural byproducts. It explains the bioenergetics of microbial processes, composting agricultural and animal wastes, odor measurement, and toxic control.

Pollution Management
This course explains the concepts and approaches to correct and alleviate the effects of environmental pollution. It examines the use of biological processes, as well as the biochemical, ecological, and physicochemical aspects for pollutant remediation and mitigation. It reviews the most current and advanced control technologies used for management of air and water pollutants.

Materials Design & Failure
This course explains the mechanical design of all engineering materials (metals, ceramics, polymers, glasses, elastomers, and composites); classes of engineering materials; materials, process selection, and optimization for engineering applications; quality control principles; and common mechanical failure mechanisms.

Agricultural Engineering
This course brings the principles and applications of engineering to bear on the science and technology of farming and growing.
