Land Use Planning
This course presents the properties that govern the use of soil for plant growth and construction engineering purposes. It emphasizes on sustainable use and conservation. It identifies soil resources for human needs and the management of soil landscape data to ameliorate the environmental impact of human activities.
Academic Supervisor: Mohamed Abdallah Naguib El-Reedy

Environmental Impact
This course presents both the theoretical and practical aspects of assessing environmental impact in order to support a policy that leads to the restoration and conservation of animal and plant diversity. It covers the structure and function of disturbed ecosystems and provides adequate the means to evaluate environmental degradation levels and the impact of human activity on environmental health and contamination.
Academic Supervisor: Eduard Bes Fuster

Drainage & Irrigation
This course explores all issues related to drainage and irrigation including soil-water-plant relationships, theory of infiltration and evapotranspiration, saturated and unsaturated flow through soils, movement of chemicals in the vadose zone, the design of surface and subsurface drainage systems, design of sprinkler, trickle, and subsurface irrigation systems. It studies the management of irrigation systems in developing countries.
Academic Supervisor: Rafif Srour

Earth Science
This course examines the structure of Earth including plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes. It reviews the natural processes operating on Earth such as erosion, mass wasting, glaciation permafrost, rivers, etc. It also covers Earth history; stratigraphic and paleontologic concepts; and minerals and non-renewable earth resources and their exploitation. It explores natural hazards and global change and the primary considerations for survival in addition to water, food, and energy supplies, soil loss, and waste disposal.
Academic Supervisor: Mina Benjouali

Geology
This course explores the origin, structure, and composition of minerals and igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. Plate tectonics, volcanism, rock deformation, earthquake activity, and mountain building are integrated to give an overview of Earth’s dynamic internal processes.
Academic Supervisor: Mina Benjouali

Soil & Water Conservation
This course reviews the problems, principles, and control of soil erosion by water and wind, land planning for soil conservation, and water management including irrigation and drainage problems.
Academic Supervisor: Rafif Srour

Hydrology
This course introduces the main components of the hydrologic cycle including precipitation processes, evapotranspiration, soil water and groundwater flow, and surface water features. Emphasis is placed on the atmospheric and geologic processes controlling water movement in the cycle at the global and local scales, considering the environmental impacts of urbanization and land-use management.
Academic Supervisor: Abdul Qayeum Karim

Soil Fertility
This course explores all aspects of soil fertility including nutrient availability, soil chemistry, solubility relationships, ion exchange, and oxidation-reduction reactions in soils. It considers the sources, properties, and utilization of fertilizers and other formulas to affect soil fertility.
Academic Supervisor: Rafif Srour

Soil Science
This course presents the properties and mechanics of soil that govern its use for purposes related to plant growth, construction, and conservation. Topics include soil biology, chemistry, water, fertility, classification, and surveys. It relates these concepts to current soil management, wetland management, the use of Geographic Information Systems for soil mapping, and much more. It stresses on sustainable soil uses and prepares students to deal with current environmental issues, such as soil and water conservation, nutrient management, sustainable agriculture, etc.
Academic Supervisor: Rafif Srour

Soil Improvement
This course explores the methods of soil improvement, cohesion, de-watering, drains, compaction, ground stabilization, and injections.
Academic Supervisor: Rafif Srour

Soil Morphology
This course examines soil morphology and classification. It studies the soil as a natural three-dimension system and considers the effect of geologic, climatic, and biotic interactions on soil characteristics and the processes of soil formation and the mechanisms of soil classification.
Academic Supervisor: Rafif Srour

Soil Microbiology
This course explores the microbial processes in soils and sediments; the decomposition of organic matter, carbon transformation, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus and other mineral transformations; the chemistry of these reactions and their biogeochemical implications; and the applications of microbial activities for bioremediation of contaminated soils and groundwater.
