Meteorology via distance learning

This program describes all the features of the atmosphere including weather, climate, and climate change. It covers all major weather and climate topics: atmospheric composition and air pollution, clouds and precipitation, atmospheric energy cycles, causes of wind systems and jet streams, cyclones and anticyclones, severe weather (including thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes), and origins of climate change (natural and human). It describes how weather forecasting is done. It also explains how the rapidly increasing human population and consumption of energy and other raw materials are significantly impacting the global environment.

Weather & Climate
This course examines weather phenomena, climate and climate change, and the associated effects on individuals and societies in the past and present. The possibility and effects of human-caused changes in the climate system are also discussed.
Academic Supervisor: Eduard Bes Fuster

Climate Change
This course studies the science of climate change and the latest available research and scientific data: new patterns of rainfall, droughts, weather events, and global warming. It also analyses the social changes and adaptations that human communities will have to consider, the political implications of climate change, and the ongoing diplomatic efforts.
Academic Supervisor: Eduard Bes Fuster

Atmospheric Science
This course presents weather processes and climate and discusses fronts and cyclones, precipitation processes, the wind systems of the world, severe storms, and weather modification. It reviews the physical and chemical behavior of the atmosphere and the fundamental concepts used in weather analysis and forecasting.
Academic Supervisor: Mina Benjouali

Meteorology
This course deals with the concepts and laws of dynamic meteorology and the application of thermodynamics to planetary atmospheres and hydrostatics. It also considers the dynamics of ocean currents and their interactions with the atmosphere.
Academic Supervisor: Eduard Bes Fuster

Climatology
This course explores the global and surface energy balance, the hydrologic cycle, the influence on climate of the atmospheric and oceanic circulation, climate history, sensitivity, modeling, and natural and anthropogenic change. It also deals with the thermodynamics of cloud and precipitation: nucleation, drop growth by condensation, collection and coalescence processes, drop breakup, and ice crystal growth accretion and aggregation.
Academic Supervisor: Mina Benjouali

Water & Air Quality
This course reviews the control technologies used for management of air, water, and wastewater pollutants. It examines the characteristics of air and water quality; their physical, chemical, and bacteriological parameters; and control measures primarily filtration, sedimentation, coagulation, absorption, chemical treatment, and aeration.
