METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. Students enrolling into this distance education program should be aware that:
1. Location: Bircham International University needs a functional geographical location to ship the book and materials for successful completion of this program of study.
2. Communication: Email, courier, phone are key communication instruments with Bircham University that play an important role in the progress and support of this program of study.
3. Capacity: Any impediment, physical or psychological, to read a book and write a report must be communicated to Bircham International University prior to enrollment into this distance learning program.

All information related to the distance learning degree programs is in English, although you may, upon request and approval, submit the required assignments in other languages.

 

Duration - Physics Online via distance learning

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week. It also depends on the number of validated credits from previous knowledge and the level of commitment to the studies.

This course explores the electric and magnetic fields, their nature, properties, forces, and the electromagnetic relation. It reviews the laws that govern electricity and magnetism.

Nature of Light
This course examines the theories on the nature of light. It considers the corpuscular model, the light undulant model, wave surface concept, quantic and dual models, and the energetic model. It examines parallel and divergent light hazes impacting on a surface: reflection and refraction.

Mechanics: Statics
This course reviews static mechanics, force systems, equilibrium of particles and rigid bodies, center of gravity, areas, masses and volumes, inertia, friction, kinematics of particles, and the application of static mechanics to structures and machine elements.

Mechanics: Dynamics
This course reviews dynamic mechanics, the motion of rigid bodies, vibration, translation and rotation, impulse, momentum, work and energy, and the application of dynamic mechanics to projectiles, gyroscopes, machine elements, and other engineering systems.

Thermodynamics
This course reviews the main principles and laws of thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, and fluid dynamics. It introduces the use of entropy and free energy, energy conversions and energy systems, combined heat and power, tri-generation systems (power, heating, and cooling), hybrid systems, and energy conversion efficiencies. It offers an understanding of the role of chemical thermodynamics in the development and design of energy systems.

Electromagnetic Propagation
This course explains the transmission, reception, and propagation of electromagnetic waves. It considers wave polarization, radio transmission, antenna concepts and design, and radiowave propagation in the presence of the earth and its atmosphere.

Relativity
This course studies curved space-time and the Einstein field equations. It examines general relativity theory and its application to cosmological models.

Modern Physics
This course presents the theoretical aspects of present-day particle physics, electromagnetic, strong and weak interactions, the uncertainty principle, and the current theories in quantum physics.

Spectroscopy
This course covers multiple topics in spectroscopy. These range from atomic emissions and absorption spectroscopy to determination and description of color, methods of excitation and detection, molecular electronic spectroscopy, instrumental characteristics, applications to quantitative determinations, sources and control of errors, and interferences.

Optics
This course examines the luminous beam concepts and refraction index. It deals with the origin of the refraction index and chromatic dispersion. It considers the laws of optics for homogeneous means and isotrops, some applications of the Fermat principle, the theorem of Malus-Dupin, the theory of optical representation, optical systems, object, and image.

This course reviews the properties and origin of galaxies, quasars, clusters of galaxies, the big-bang theory, and the theories about the origin and fate of the Universe.

This course explores the Planets, Newtonian gravity and celestial mechanics, the formation of stars and planets, meteorites, asteroids, comets, planetary interiors, planetary surfaces, planetary atmospheres, and the origin of life.

You may download this application form from the website or request it by email or mail. Please send this application and enclosed documents to our address. You may also submit this application and attached documents by email in a PDF Format.

Bircham International University issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the distance learning degree program's major.
