This program about geopolitics and geostrategy examines the dramatic effects wrought by ideological, economic, socio-cultural and demographic changes in the context of their human and physical settings, and it explores their geographical influence on foreign policy and international relations. Geopolitics and geostrategy focus on political and military power linked to geographic space. They plan or predict international political behavior through variables such climate, topography, demography, natural resources, and regional technology. Geostrategy also investigates the impact of energy issues in geopolitics.

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. Duration - Geopolitics & Geostrategy Online via distance learning

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week. It also depends on the number of validated credits from previous knowledge and the level of commitment to the studies.

This course deals with the political institutions and administration in the Western European countries, their interactions, and how the shape the nature of politics in developed industrial countries. The course focuses on Western industrialized countries, which vary in their democratic practices and behavior.

This course introduces the dynamics of political behavior in the Middle East. It explains the ideological and cultural foundations, the nature, and the performance of several political systems in this region.

Comparative Politics: The Far East
This course examines the politics of Asian countries through an overview of the history and culture of selected countries and the study of their emergence as modern nations. Emphasis is placed upon China, Japan, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Comparisons are drawn between the various historical and political dimensions of these countries.

East-West International Relations
This course explains the interaction of Asian countries with the rest of the world during the colonial era, the period of rising nationalism, and in the contemporary political and global economy. It covers the history, emergence, and contemporary politics and problems of selected countries from the East and the West in a comparative manner.

Natural Resource Economics
This course deals with the economic principles and policy issues in the use of exhaustible and renewable resources including fossil fuels, water, minerals, fisheries, forests, and biodiversity. It considers the management of natural resources on a regional and international scale. It explains how public, economic, and political choices affect environmental degradation and natural resources.

Human Habitat
This course studies the concepts, methods, techniques, and applications for the analysis of the human habitat, settlements, distribution, population, and cultural environment. It explores the relation of human habitats with available land space, geography, overpopulation, and ecological impact.

Military Strategy
This course deals with the art and concepts of warfare from the beginning of recorded history to the present day. It provides an understanding of the interrelations of political, strategic, operational, tactical, and technical levels of war from the past, while bringing into focus the application of these same principles to the battlefields of today.

World Politics & Globalization
This course discusses the great power relations in the 20th century. Several critical issues of world equilibrium are analyzed, as well as notions of national power, the paths to power, balance of power, and collective security. It presents the instruments of international peace and order. It examines the following topics in international politics: massive destruction arms control, wars of intervention, the environment, global interest versus self-determination, and peace management.

International Transport
This course describes techniques, procedures, and documents related to international trade transactions and the international transportation of goods using mainly maritime or multimodal transportation. It covers the laws and regulations applied to international sales contracts, the Incoterms, the role and responsibilities of the freight forwarder, the importance of cargo insurance, customs procedures, the modes of payment, and the use of documentary credits.

Maritime & Port Economics
This course aims at analyzing seaports and their development in a modern global context, taking into account both their multi-functionality and their potentiality to contribute to the welfare of regions and entire nations. Countries that have easy maritime access benefit from the advantages of an open economy. Moreover, their seaports often are a kind of trigger for achieving full economic development.

Weather & Climate
This course examines weather phenomena, climate and climate change, and the associated effects on individuals and societies in the past and present. The possibility and effects of human-caused changes in the climate system are also discussed.

This course studies the Earth's total physical environment: atmosphere, water, landforms, soils, and vegetation. It reviews the complete world regional geography and cartography and emphasizes on the interrelationship between human beings and the environment within the global patterns of physical geography.

This course reviews the control technologies used for management of air, water, and wastewater pollutants.
