This program of library and data management studies how to assist researchers with the organization, management and curation of research data to enhance its preservation and access now and into the future. Librarians engage in managing research data, using research data as a resource, or supporting researchers in these activities. Current technologies provide new means of organizing and accessing data and library services but traditional library services must always be considered as well.

This course provides updates on the development in the field of information technology and prepares students to properly and effectively use these technologies in any project. Students will learn hardware and software functions to solve problems commonly found in information technology systems, database systems, networks, peripherals, and telecommunication systems.

This course of information science is primarily concerned with the efficient analysis, collection, classification, manipulation, storage, retrieval, movement, dissemination, and protection of data in order to convert it into useful knowledge.

This course analyzes database management systems and explains how data resources are designed and managed to support information systems in organizations. This course develops a framework for database system analysis and design and focuses on data modeling and management. Additional topics include security, data languages, DBMS, Object Orientation, and distributed databases.

Web Administration & Security
This course shows how to administer a network, setup a server for a network and an Internet environment, design and implement cabling for a network, solve troubleshoot network security problems related to e-commerce. Also, it demonstrates how to use networking protocols, TCP/IP architecture, and security essentials to include authentication, encryption, and firewalls.

Web & Database Integration
This course allows students to develop expertise in database programming and the connection of interactive web sites to relational databases. It defines the different types of databases and database management systems, describes the differences between a relational database and a non-relational database, and differentiates between Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC).

This course of data science uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from data. It analyzes the process of collecting, transforming, cleaning, and modeling data with the goal of discovering the required information. This course addresses the issues encountered in the administrative work of museums. It reviews museum specimen documentation and research approaches, including technological and raw material analyses, classification, contextual studies, and esthetic studies.

This course examines the key issues of cultural resource management. Topics include the role in environmental permitting, inventory and significance evaluation of resources, project impacts and design of mitigation measures, consultation with government agencies and tribal organizations, and related issues in museum management.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. 1. Location: Bircham International University needs a functional geographical location to ship the book and materials for successful completion of this program of study.

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week.
