This course explains how visual arts have been influenced by, and how they have influenced, interacted with, defined, and been defined by other media, arts, technology and cultural trends. It examines how visual arts have moved from a marginal to a mainstream art form. It explores the nature of visual perception in everyday life and how the elements of visual imagery may combine to deliver a persuasive message.

Narrative Development
This course illustrates the means of story-telling and integrates practical writer rules with theoretical models based on literary constructions. It explains the construction of a solid narrative combined with the creation of believable, compelling characters that propel that narrative forward. It finally helps to find personal stories that inspire dramatic narrative.

Theory of Drama & Comedy
This course reveals the actions and events that create the structure of a dramatic and humorist texts. It presents plays composed by various writers, each representing a different style. Why do we laugh and/or cry? What is humor and what is drama? Why does one person laugh and/or cry at something when another person doesn't?

Script & Screen Writing
This course explores the art, craft, and business of script writing from both theoretical and practical perspectives. It examines the process of screenwriting from concept to character and from opening scene to finished script. It pinpoints the structural and stylistic elements essential to good screenplays and focuses on style and language, format, structure, location, and characterization. It presents a step-by-step and comprehensive technique for writing scripts.

This course examines the creation, staging, and coverage of dramatic events through the study and analysis of structure, plot, character, and the action dialectics of stories and scenes. It examines the relationship between story, scenes and structure, and the grammar and syntax of visual story-telling.

Staging & Choreography
This course describes the elements, aesthetics, and process of stage and choreographic creation by examining the theories and relevant staging and choreography works. Problems in stage placement, movement style, and dramatic purpose are explored through analysis of both historical and contemporary dramatic text.

Performing Music & Dance
This course studies staged music and dance production in various venues. It leads the students through the creative process, staging, production, and performance of a complete music and/or dance work in conjunction with a conceptual study of its form and content.

Television Production & Directing
This course covers the principles and techniques of producing a television program beginning with the concept, passing through the script, to actual studio production. It covers topics such as production preplanning, the role of the director and the producer, and other broadcast-related fields of video production. Creativity
This course presents the principles of creativity. It examines the process of idea generation using different techniques such as association, brainstorming, sense connecting, closures, opposites, verbal plays, clocks and calendars, personalization's and so on. Artistic Design
This course is a philosophical examination of artistic creation and design. It discusses the impact of art on everyday life, and evaluates different design styles, approaches, and interpretations. It also addresses the problems encountered by design artists including the idea of talent, the artist's personality, and creative blocks, and shows creative tools and inspirational resources for the artistic designer.

Directing Actors
This course presents a method for establishing creative and collaborative relationships with actors. It discusses how to get the most out of rehearsals, how to solve the problems of poor performances, and how to give efficient instructions. It discusses what constitutes a good performance, what actors want from directors, what directors do wrong, how to analyze dramatic scripts, how actors work, and how directors and actor relate.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week.
