The way we live now is the consequence of what happened in our past. Knowing our past is the best way to understand the goals and motivations that lead the humanity to conquer wonderful achievements and to suffer terrible disasters. Learning from our past mistakes will surely teach us how to solve today's problem. Upon request, this program may be adapted and focused to study the history of a specific country or epoch.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. Students enrolling into this distance education program should be aware that:
1. Location: Bircham International University needs a functional geographical location to ship the book and materials for successful completion of this program of study.
2. Communication: Email, courier, phone are key communication instruments with Bircham University that play an important role in the progress and support of this program of study.

Duration - World History Online via distance learning

For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week. It also depends on the number of validated credits from previous knowledge and the level of commitment to the studies.

This course presents a historical analysis of the era ranging from pre-classical antiquity to the beginning of the Middle Ages, with special emphasis on the Greek and Roman empires. It stresses on the philosophical, political, and sociological evolution of Greeks and Romans, and their relationship and influence with other Mediterranean civilizations.

Historical analysis of the Middle Ages covering in detail the Romanic and Gothic movements. The course stresses on the philosophical, political, and artistic evolution of middle ages and their deep interrelationship with the Church and the Catholic religion.

The Renaissance & The Baroque
Historical analysis of the Renaissance (1300 to 1600) and Baroque (1600 to 1700) periods and their relation and influence on neighbor civilizations. This course stresses on the philosophical, political, and artistic evolution of these periods in their cultural context.

This course explores the history of America, from prehistory to current times through a balanced coverage of political, diplomatic, social and economic, legal, and cultural key issues. It also covers the history of South and Central America from the civilizations and cultures of Native American peoples before 1500 to the movements for independence.

The Modern & Industrial Ages
This course embraces the modern age that starts with the Industrial Revolution and deals with the fundamental changes that occurred in agriculture, textile and metal manufacture, transportation, science, technology, economic policies, and the social structure that transformed the old manner of doing things in the XIX Century.

This course explores Western imperialism, and the revolutions, wars, and colonialism in the XVIII, XIX, and XX Centuries, and how these events affected national frontiers, shaped countries and population, and changed the social and political structures, and ultimately the way of living.

This course reviews the major political, social, ideological, economic, and cultural trends that developed throughout Middle East from the rise of Islam, the Crusades, the Ottoman Empire, and the age of imperialism, to the present Middle East nationalism.

This course explores the major issues in East Asian civilization from the early times to current days. While the focus is on China, Japan and Korea, attention is also given to inner Asian peoples and traditions, like Mongolia and Tibet. This course provides a historical analysis of the contemporary world (XX Century) in global perspective from the First World War to nowadays. It examines the World Wars and Peace, Cold War, social and economic patterns, neo-imperialism, decolonization's, globalization, peace initiatives, and the local and international effects of global conditions and events, like global terrorism.

Comparative Historical Analysis
This courses presents a global review of the four Old World civilizations of the Middle East, India, China, and Europe, with special emphasis on their mutual influences and interaction across time. You may download this application form from our website or request it by email or mail. Please send this application and enclosed documents to the corresponding BIU Office and allow ten business days for processing. * Include copies of diplomas, transcripts, relevant documents; and
* Include any additional program proposal, scholarship request, etc. (optional).

 

Bircham International University issues an admission certificate after receiving your complete application for admission. This document will show the amount of credits transferred and validated from previous education and experience, and the amount of credits required to complete the distance learning degree program's major.
