This course presents the properties that govern the use of soil for plant growth and construction engineering purposes. It emphasizes on sustainable use and conservation. This course presents both the theoretical and practical aspects of assessing environmental impact in order to support a policy that leads to the restoration and conservation of animal and plant diversity. This course surveys housing and community development problems and standards. This course explores the usefulness of various types of energies and the application of engineering in designing alternative energy systems. This course surveys the dominant theories of economic development and the meaning of "development vs. growth." This course reviews the control technologies used for management of air, water, and wastewater pollutants. It examines the characteristics of air and water quality; their physical, chemical, and bacteriological parameters; and control measures primarily filtration, sedimentation, coagulation, absorption, chemical treatment, and aeration.

Sustainability
This course of sustainability focuses on how to protect, preserve and make the smartest possible use of the planet's natural resources. It provides an interdisciplinary perspective of the sustainability concept considering sustainable development, geography, environmental policies, ethics, ecology, landscape architecture, city and regional planning, economics, natural resources, sociology, and anthropology. Sustainability looks to protect our natural environment, human and ecological health, while driving innovation and not compromising our way of life.

Circular Economy
This course of circular economy explores the design and promotion of products that last and that can be reused, repaired and remanufactured. Circular economy is a production and consumption model that ensures sustainable growth over time. It looks for the optimization of resources, to reduce the consumption of raw materials, and to recover waste by recycling or giving it a second life as a new product.

Economic Development
This course deals with the performance and problems of developing countries in relation to growth, employment, structural change, and human development. It analyzes several theories and paradigms of development, sources of economic growth, and the policies used to promote industrialization, trade, and sustainability. METHOD OF INSTRUCTION: Distance Learning Higher Education

 

This distance learning education program is completed by a traditional correspondence instruction method. Once you sign up for the course, Bircham International University will send you (to your mailing address) the suggested textbooks. After reading the book, you will be asked to write a 20 to 35 pages report that reflect your understanding of the book. This report is equivalent to the exam and can be submitted by email or mail. Bircham International University will evaluate your written work. If passed, BIU will issue the corresponding diploma. For a program of 21 credits, the estimated time for completion is 21 weeks. For 45 credits, the estimated time for completion will be 45 weeks, and so on. Calculations are approximate. The length of each distance learning degree program is calculated based on an average of 15 hours of learning per week.
